I got the idea from my mother who sent me an article on permaculture. I had just had several trees cut down and so I had a lot of logs and wood chips. My yard is on a 2 way slop from east to west and north to south. The slope had eroded for many years which left little to no topsoil. This was the prefect place to try a half sided huglekultur mount. Step 1 - I made a wall of logs and placed logs behind the wall. Step 2 - Cover the logs with leaf and yard compost layered with immature food waste compost Step 3 - plant veggies I planted spaghetti squash, tomatoes and onions. Thanks to all the rain my huglekultur went wild. I have harvested over 30 squash this year! This was my first year for this type of gardening. Next year my plan is to add more perennial plants like raspberries and blackberries.
